TempDot

TempDot is a lightweight macOS menu bar app for Apple Silicon thermal awareness.

Download

Download the latest preview release from GitHub Releases.

Build

swift build

Build App Bundle

./Scripts/build-app.sh
open .build/TempDot.app

The app hides its Dock icon via LSUIElement and appears only in the menu bar.

After rebuilding, quit the existing TempDot instance from the menu bar before opening the newly built app bundle.

Build DMG

./Scripts/build-dmg.sh 0.1.0

The DMG contains TempDot.app and an /Applications shortcut.

The DMG and app bundle use Resources/TempDot.icns as their icon.

Sensors

The first version reads IOHID Apple vendor temperature sensors and uses ProcessInfo.thermalState as a stable fallback. Values outside 0...120°C are ignored.

To inspect the raw readings:

.build/debug/TempDot --dump-sensors

Icons

The UI currently uses SF Symbols placeholders. Hugeicons Stroke Rounded icons can replace these later by exporting only the required SVG assets into the asset catalog.

Suggested Hugeicons replacements:

thermometer
cpu
battery-medium-01
hard-drive
chart-line-data-01
pulse-01
moon-02
notification-02
reload
settings-02

Keep icon names centralized in Sources/TempDot/Appearance.swift so the UI can switch from Image(systemName:) to asset-backed images without touching monitor logic.
