Closes #32. This is the machine translation of lectures/intro.md (the book's opening page) for native-speaker review by Adisankar: round 6. It was made with the current release of the engine, v0.29.5, which carries what rounds 1–5 taught it. Preview: https://quantecon.github.io/lecture-python-programming.ml/pr-58/intro.html

For the reviewer (@adisankarmt)

  • Please read the whole page, in the preview or under Files changed, and put a suggestion block on any line you would change. For a larger change, you can commit to this branch instead. The translation manual has the details, and its Malayalam page the edition's term policy and rulings.
  • What matters most: meaning errors; Malayalam where the edition keeps English (over-translation); terms that disagree with the glossary or the Malayalam page; register that departs from the classroom teacher's voice; Malayalam that reads unnaturally.
  • Please skip the heading and the translation: block at the top of the file. The table of contents under the text lists the book's part titles in English, as the edition keeps its headings in English; please skip those too. This page has no code cells or exercises.
  • An error in the English goes upstream: open an issue in QuantEcon/lecture-python-programming, link it in a comment on the line, and leave the translation matching the English as it stands; your review goes ahead without waiting for the fix.
  • When your review is complete, approve this pull request and mention @mmcky in the summary. Read and verify every edit yourself, and do not let AI or machine translation write it: see Review by hand.
  • @mmcky then applies your suggestions, with you credited as co-author, answers here any that are not applied, and updates the engine (glossary entries, rules, automatic checks and repair scripts) before the next lecture is drafted. Merging this pull request also closes the lecture's review issue. Questions that need your answer come afterwards on one issue, assigned to you.
  • GitHub Copilot may leave an automated review here. It does not know the edition's keep-English policy, and it needs no attention from you.
  • There is no deadline.

New since the last draft

  • From your review of pandas.md (Malayalam translation: pandas — calibration review round 5 (v0.29.3 engine) #26): the words you put back in English at every site, efficient, convenient, satisfy, compare and success, are now kept in English by the engine's word list. Fresh drafts of pandas at this release were checked against your reviewed page first: efficient, convenient, satisfy and success no longer came out in Malayalam, compare still did in two of the three drafts, and nothing you had already taught the tool slipped.
  • The comma, sentence-split and discourse-formula scripts were also widened from your pandas review. None of them found anything to change on this page.
  • Your round-5 answers on Round-5 review questions for Adisankar (pandas): two questions, and three small fixes to confirm #57 (2026-10-20) came after this draft. Answer 1.2 applies to one place: line 18 has economics-ലും finance-ലും without a comma, and by your answer it becomes economics-ലും, finance-ലും. The same line opens with a lowercase economics; by the capitals rule (Round-4 review questions for Adisankar (numpy): five word choices, and three small fixes to confirm #25) it becomes Economics-ലും. Include both in your review if you like; otherwise they are added when your review is applied. Answer 1.1 has no place here, as the page has no bullet lists.
  • This pull request also commits the page's state file, .translate/state/intro.md.yml, which records the English version the translation was made from. It needs no review.

Provenance

  • Source: QuantEcon/lecture-python-programming@b0c58ab (intro.md last changed in a2a3763).
  • Model: claude-sonnet-5.
  • Engine: v0.29.5 (e7356cc, what @v0 resolves to), with the Malayalam glossary v0.8.0 and the 28-rule set.
  • Command, run locally: translate init --localize none.
  • Drafts: three of the same engine on the same source; this one was chosen by our checks (see Disclosures).

Machine verification

  • Heading and the table-of-contents directive: identical to the English.
  • The settings at the top of the file (jupytext, kernelspec): identical to the English.
  • On the text as sent: both paragraphs end with a full stop, provide is നൽകുന്ന, and there are no comma-plus-pronoun joins.
  • Corrected 2026-10-21: this line first also said the text had no -ഉം pairs without a comma and no Malayalam plurals on English nouns. Both were wrong. Line 18 has the pair and the lowercase opener described above, and line 16 has a plural, under Left as generated below.

Left as generated for you to call

  • Line 16 renders the set of lecture series as lecture series-കളുടെ ശേഖരത്തിലെ ("collection"), inside the link text. The glossary keeps set in English for its software and mathematics meanings; this is the everyday meaning, so whether it stays Malayalam is yours to call. Another draft kept set in English here. The same phrase also puts a Malayalam plural on an English noun, series-കളുടെ: by the plural rule (Round-3 review questions for Adisankar (matplotlib): which words stay English, five word choices, Further Reading #22) the English plural takes the ending directly, and series is the same in the singular and the plural, so the form is yours to choose with the rest of the phrase.

Disclosures

  1. Draft selection. This is one of three drafts of the same engine on the same source. The other two dropped the settings at the top of the file that tell Jupyter how to run the page; this is the one that kept them. All three drafts are archived in the engine repository.
  2. Scripted repairs: none. The repair scripts (ml_repair.py) found nothing to change on this draft, and nothing in the text was edited.
  3. AI use: the translation is machine-made by the engine, and the draft selection, the checks and this description were prepared with Claude Code under @mmcky's direction.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Machine translation of intro for native-speaker review, round 6 of the
calibration programme. Produced locally with translate init
--localize none at action-translation v0.29.5 (e7356cc = @v0), model
claude-sonnet-5, glossary v0.8.0, from lecture-python-programming@b0c58ab
(intro.md last changed in a2a3763). Of three draws, the only one that
kept the jupytext front matter identical to source.

No repairs: ml_repair.py changed nothing on this draw. No hand edits.
Heading and the {tableofcontents} directive identical to source.

Commits the state file init wrote (.translate/state/intro.md.yml,
source-sha a2a3763), per ml plan decision 15; translate status reads
ALIGNED against the English at b0c58ab.

🟡 Changes recommended

Line 18 omits the required comma between the economics-ലും/finance-ലും -ഉം pair, and line 16 attaches a Malayalam plural to the English noun series, both deviating from established edition conventions and contradicting the PR's own machine-verification claims.

What changed in this PR

This PR adds the first Malayalam machine-translation draft of lectures/intro.md (the book's opening page) for native-speaker review, produced by the v0.29.5 translation engine. The page is two short sentences above a {tableofcontents} directive, and the English headings/table-of-contents stay in English per the edition's keep-English policy. It also commits the page's translation state file so the source version is recorded.

Changes:

  • Added a translation: metadata block carrying the English title.
  • Translated the two intro sentences to Malayalam, keeping technical/English terms per edition policy.
  • Committed the new state file .translate/state/intro.md.yml recording the source SHA, model, and engine version.
File Description
lectures/intro.md Adds the translation: title block and the Malayalam rendering of the two opening sentences; removes a trailing blank line.
.translate/state/intro.md.yml New state file recording source SHA, sync date, model, mode, and tool version for provenance.
