MistWorks is a small bare-metal ecosystem targeting the x86_64 processor architecture, with most of its parts written in C It is fully open-source and open to your contribution!
I created MistWorks to deeply learn the PC working process from all sides with all details and peculiarities Every feature and commit is accompanied by attempts to understand the topic as fully as possible and to consider alternatives with all their pros and cons
Currently, MistWorks ecosystem includes 3 huge projects
The main project whose idea emerged before all others
This is a simple and light-weight operating system written entirely from scratch in C It follows the most standardized OS journey and has a solid foundation provided by other projects in MistWorks
The project that was the first to be implemented
The bootloader with 2 boot stages: first stage written in NASM and fits in first 512 bytes on disk, second stage written in C and has extended functionality Minit mostly aimed at booting Mist and Mist depends on it for this, but Minit booting third-part kernels is not excluded
The last project of this ecosystem
Freestanding standard C library used by all other MistWorks projects. Common modules, such as memory module, string module and integer math module, usually show 0 diffs compared to corresponding functions in glibc! The main feature is simple implementation and ease of use
Together, all these projects can perfectly work on real hardware! (Laptop: Acer Aspire E5-532)
I'm trying to actively develop this ecosystem and will be happy with any activity. In my telegram channel I sometimes post dev info and announce updates
Have a nice day!
