Summary
This PR adds an
[!IMPORTANT]note tocreate-offline.mdexplaining that aninstallation created from a local layout remembers the layout path, and that
the layout must stay at that location for later updates.
Problem
The article describes how to create a local layout for offline installation,
but doesn't mention that the installer records the layout path. If the layout
folder is later moved or renamed (for example, to a different file share or
drive), updates and component additions can fail because the installer can't
find the required packages. This isn't obvious from the current article.
Change
Added an
[!IMPORTANT]note to the article. The wording is identical to the note I added to the Visual Studio article
Create an offline installation of Visual Studio,
since SSMS is installed as its own Visual Studio instance by the same installer
and the behavior is the same. I verified that an SSMS installation has the
corresponding
state.jsonfile inC:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\_Instances\<InstanceID>\.Request for reviewers
Please confirm that the note applies to SSMS as written.
