OpenLiquidLauncher

Build Latest release License Kotlin Jetpack Compose API Downloads Stars

An open-source Android launcher where everything is liquid glass. Dock, app drawer, folders, context menus, widget cards and settings are refracting, blurring glass layers over your wallpaper, powered by Kyant0/AndroidLiquidGlass.

Features

  • Paged home grid (default 5×6) with a glass dock; drag & drop, folders (drop an app on another), widgets
  • Paged horizontal app drawer with search, as a full-screen glass sheet
  • Long-press menu with app shortcuts, app info, remove, uninstall
  • Wallpaper: pick an image in-app (optionally also set as system wallpaper) — the glass refracts it
  • Notification badges, themed (monochrome) icons, each app's own icon as installed
  • Newly installed apps (store, sideload, adb) are added automatically, placed after the main page — on by default, toggle in Settings → Home screen
  • Gestures: swipe up (drawer), swipe down (notifications), double tap (lock), pinch (edit mode)
  • Tunable glass: blur, refraction height/strength, surface opacity, chromatic dispersion; grid, dock and icon size

Importing your layout from another launcher (e.g. OnePlus / OxygenOS)

Settings → Import copies your dock, pages, folders, widgets and grid size from another Launcher3-based launcher:

  1. Import using Shizuku (recommended on OxygenOS). With Shizuku running, the app asks for Shizuku permission, runs dumpsys with shell rights and rebuilds your layout from the launcher's workspace. Works with the stock OnePlus launcher; no root and no PC.
  2. Import from my current launcher first tries the launcher's content provider (works for open launchers), then dumpsys, which needs the DUMP permission granted once: adb shell pm grant com.linuxkernel44.openliquidlauncher android.permission.DUMP.
  3. Import from launcher.db / dump file… reads a copy of the launcher's launcher.db, or the text of adb shell dumpsys activity <launcher>/.Launcher (e.g. com.android.launcher/.Launcher).

Notes: apps are matched by component so only installed apps are imported. With Shizuku, folders with more than 9 apps are opened one by one in the stock launcher to read every app (keep the screen on and hands off during the import). Widgets can't be copied directly: each one asks you to confirm and is then placed at its original cell. The launcher must be alive: the app briefly opens it if needed.

Home screen gestures

  • Move icons: long-press and drag. The icons after the lifted one close the hole (like OxygenOS). Hover a cell for a moment and the other icons glide aside to make room; drop on the centre of an icon to make a folder.
  • Folder with several fingers: hold an app with one finger and tap other apps with your other fingers (they get a green tick), then lift the first finger: all of them become one folder. Hold a folder and tap apps to add them to it.
  • Lift a held app without dragging or tapping others to open its menu.

Tip: double-tap any slider in Settings to reset it to its default value.

Folder animation

Opening a folder is animated (about 0.35 s). With Effects quality at Maximum the folder grows out of its icon on the home screen while the home screen steps back slightly; at any other quality it fades in. Closing plays the reverse.

Roundness

Settings → Liquid glass → Roundness (0–100, default 50 = the original look): corner roundness of every glass element — folders, dock, buttons, menus, cards, sheets and dialogs — from nearly square to fully round.

Settings → Liquid glass → Folder roundness (0–100, default 50): the same for folders only (home icon and opened panel), independent from Roundness.

Settings → Home screen → App icon roundness (0 = the system's icon shape, default; 1–100 = our own mask from a rounded square to a circle, for adaptive icons and the themed look; also used in folder previews).

Droplet look

Settings → Liquid glass → Droplet look (0–100, default 0 = the original look): makes small glass elements (folders, dock, edit buttons, drop zones, menus, scroll handle) clearer, rounder and more refractive, with a brighter rim and a soft inner shadow.

Launch animation

Settings → Launch animation: when you come back from an app or start the launcher, the home screen (icons, folders, widgets, page dots, dock) can appear with one of: None, Soft fade, Zoom (default), Cascade (icon by icon), Slide & spring. Speed Fast / Normal / Slow, and a Preview button replays it. It does not replay when you press Home while already on the home screen, and the screen stays usable while it plays.

Performance settings

Settings → Performance (applied live, "Reset performance" restores the defaults):

  • Effects quality (Minimum · Low · Current · High · Maximum): how rich the glass is. Minimum is blur only; Low adds refraction; Current is the original look; High adds depth effect and an inner shadow; Maximum adds chromatic dispersion and a softer blur.
  • Effects resolution (25 · 50 · 75 · 100% · 125 · 150): render scale of the glass. Lower is cheaper and slightly softer, higher is a smoother supersampled edge.
  • Refresh rate: Auto (system decides), Max, or a fixed rate read from your screen's modes. The system (OxygenOS) may still override it.

Requirements

Android 13+ (API 33): the real glass effect uses AGSL runtime shaders.

Build

./gradlew :app:assembleDebug

Then open the new "OpenLiquidLauncher" app icon (it opens the settings and shows how to set it as your default home app).

Permissions

  • Notification access (optional) — badges
  • Accessibility service (optional) — double-tap lock / swipe-down shade; reads no content
  • All files access (optional) — only to read the system wallpaper on Android 13+

About Launcher3

This project is inspired by AOSP Launcher3's architecture but is a fresh Compose codebase; see CLAUDE.md for why.
