feat(safeopmode): default gamepad publishing by opmode type - #33
Gamepad publishing now defaults by OpMode type via SafeOpMode:
@TELEOP: publishGamepads = true (gamepads published by default)
@autonomous / other: publishGamepads = false (gamepads not published by default)
New SafeOpMode.attachGamepad(Object, String) respects the flag, returning the registered node name or null when disabled. Subclasses opt in (auto) or opt out (teleop) by setting publishGamepads in onSafeInit() before calling attachGamepad.
Direct GamepadAdaptor.attach(...) calls are unaffected - fully backward compatible.
Includes SafeOpModeTest (6 tests) covering teleop-on, auto-off, teleop opt-out, and auto opt-in. Docs updated in gamepad-adaptor.mdx, SKILL.md, and CHANGELOG.md.
Summary by Sourcery
Make SafeOpMode gamepad publishing depend on OpMode type while preserving direct GamepadAdaptor attachment behavior.
New Features:
Add SafeOpMode.attachGamepad for conditional gamepad adaptor registration with a nullable node-name result.
Enhancements:
Default gamepad publishing to enabled for @TELEOP OpModes and disabled for Autonomous or unannotated OpModes, with subclass opt-in and opt-out controls.
Documentation:
Document SafeOpMode gamepad publishing defaults and attachGamepad usage in the FTC guides and changelog.
Tests:
Add coverage for TeleOp and Autonomous defaults plus explicit opt-in and opt-out behavior.
SafeOpMode.init() now sets publishGamepads based on the class annotation:
- @TELEOP -> true (gamepads published by default)
- @autonomous / other -> false (gamepads not published by default; opt in)
Add SafeOpMode.attachGamepad(Object, String) which respects the flag,
returning the registered node name or null when disabled. Direct
GamepadAdaptor.attach() calls are unaffected and remain fully backward
compatible.
Add SafeOpModeTest covering teleop-on, auto-off, teleop opt-out, and
auto opt-in. Document the default in gamepad-adaptor.mdx, SKILL.md, and
CHANGELOG.md.
SafeOpMode now initializes gamepad publishing based on whether the class is annotated with @TeleOp, exposes a flag-aware attachGamepad helper for controlled registration, and includes tests and documentation for default, opt-in, opt-out, and backward-compatible direct attachment behavior.
Sequence diagram for SafeOpMode gamepad attachment
Default gamepad publishing is derived from the concrete OpMode annotation during initialization, with an overridable flag for per-subclass opt-in or opt-out.
Set publishGamepads to true for @TeleOp classes and false for Autonomous or unannotated classes.
Allow subclasses to change the flag in onSafeInit() before attaching gamepads.

SafeOpMode now defaults gamepad publishing on for @TeleOp classes and off for other classes. Its new attachGamepad() method skips attachment when publishing is disabled and otherwise delegates to GamepadAdaptor.attach(). Tests and documentation cover the defaults and overrides.

attachGamepad() skips attachment when publishing is disabled and delegates to GamepadAdaptor.attach() when enabled. Tests cover defaults and overrides. Documentation describes the settings and usage.
The enabled gamepad behavior is not actually verified by the new tests, and test resources remain open. Fix those issues before merging; clarify that TeleOp users must call attachGamepad().

**Background polling survives tests**
When the SafeOpMode tests initialize an OpMode, `op.init()` creates an OpMode-owned orchestrator, but `tearDown()` closes only the separate fixture orchestrator. Any scheduled `GamepadAdaptor` polling remains active after the test, accumulating background work in the test process.
Track each initialized OpMode and stop it or close its owned orchestrator and pollers in `tearDown()`, rather than closing only the fixture orchestrator.

<issue_to_address>
**Missing gamepad topics go undetected**
When the adaptor does not create the expected topic for an enabled OpMode, `findTopic()` returns an `Optional`, so `assertNotNull` passes even when the topic is absent; both positive attachment tests therefore pass without verifying that the TeleOp or opted-in Auto topics were created.
Assert that the `Optional` returned by `findTopic()` is present in both positive attachment tests.

</code_context>
<issue_to_address>
**Auto publishing still enabled**
When an Autonomous caller uses the existing documented `GamepadAdaptor.attach` pattern, `SafeOpMode` callers following the existing direct-attach examples still register a `GamepadAdaptor`, because `publishGamepads` gates only `attachGamepad`; the page’s claim that gamepads are not published for Autonomous therefore does not hold for those callers.
Clarify that the defaults apply only when callers use `attachGamepad`, and update the SafeOpMode examples to use it.

Close the orchestrator created by each OpMode.
setUp() creates an orchestrator that none of the tests use. Each op.init() creates a separate orchestrator, but tearDown() closes only the setup orchestrator. Track each initialized OpMode and close its orchestrator after the test. Remove the unused setup orchestrator. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

@TELEOP not @inherited causes publishGamepads default to fail for concrete subclasses
The default publishGamepads check fails for concrete subclasses because @TeleOp isn't @Inherited. Document in the javadoc that the annotation must be on the concrete OpMode class.

File src/main/java/com/aaravlabs/synapse/ftc/SafeOpMode.java, line 74:
@TeleOp not @Inherited causes publishGamepads default to fail for concrete subclasses
The @TeleOp annotation is not @Inherited, so publishGamepads default fails for concrete subclasses of an @TeleOp-annotated base class. getClass().isAnnotationPresent(TeleOp.class) returns false for a concrete class that doesn't carry @TeleOp itself, even if its parent does. This matches FTC SDK Driver Station behavior but is a silent footgun. Document in the javadoc for publishGamepads that @TeleOp must be present on the concrete OpMode class, not just a parent class.
